Drake, Chicago Freestyle Easter Eggs
Updated: May 7, 2020
Released May 1, 2020 - Dark Lane Demo Tapes Feel Like "Dark City, Luxury Quarantine Culture"
Drake's bipolar relationship with women in his music tends to veer toward both cold hearted and warm hearted spectrums as it is clear he feels some type of way on Chicago Freestyle. Drake presents his demeanor as a serious businessman with a mafia ego while reiterating that the "professional groupies" do not contribute to the success of his empire.
Drake interpolate lyrics from Marshall Mathers (aka Eminem) "Superman" track revealing how Drake really feels at the moment.
But I do know one thing though Women they come they go Saturday through Sunday, Monday Monday through Sunday, yo
The motif seen here is Drake's signature pattern by inserting a relatable cover from previous classic hit records. He does it strategically perfect stamping his work as legit.
"In music, a motif is a short musical phrase, a salient recurring figure, musical fragment or succession of notes that has some special importance in or is characteristic of a composition: The motive is the smallest structural unit possessing thematic identity" (Wikipedia)
Drake lay more Easter Eggs referencing different cities and specific times of the day. I'm starting to think these are the times his heart may have been broken, but I have yet to figure out the nature behind this fiasco.
2:30, baby, won't you meet me by The Bean? Too early, maybe later you can show me things. You know what it is whenever I visit. Windy city, she blowin' me kisses.
This consistent Easter Egg is heard in his previous tracks:
5am in Toronto (Care Package 2019)
9am in Dallas (Tank Me Later Bonus 2010)
4PM in Calabasas (Care Package 2019)
6PM In New York (If You're Reading This It's Too Late 2015)
Easter Eggs In Media Definition:
"While the term Easter egg has been used to mean a hidden object for some time, in reference to an Easter egg hunt, it has come to be more commonly used to mean a message, image, or feature hidden in a video game, movie, or other, usually electronic, medium." (Wikipedia)
Windy City is a place where you must keep it moving especially when the weather is cold. We witnessed what happened to Jussie Smollett on his walk to Subway; laughing but serious. The fact that Drake is trying to meet a woman at the Bean at Millennium Park in 30 degree weather is a clear sign he is a "tourist." Windy will show you quickly not to test her weather gangster. The YouTube video posted below is a perfect visual of the mood and atmosphere of large city luxury living. The atmosphere reminds me of the Asian mafia organization in the movie "Lucy," starring Scarlett Johansson with Morgan Freeman, in terms of the city décor and themes. The above cover photo taken from the London House Hotel-Chicago fits an identical Chicago atmosphere. This theme brings us back to Drake's photoshoot from his Views Album (2016).
High-design, luxury lifestyle hotel, LondonHouse Chicago synchronizes the classical architecture of 360 North Michigan Avenue with a modernist 22 story all glass tower addition forming a one-of-a-kind destination in Chicago.
Chicago Freestyle Video Released February 29, 2020
Visitors come to Chicago thinking the wind factors mixed with lake effect snow is a joke. The only purpose to be out and about is to conduct business. Chicago Freestyle, in general, reminds me of Chief Keef's Check It Out track where Chief Keef explicitly explains he is in town for business and a woman is the least of his concern unless she can catch him in traffic.
You can hear the businessman language and terminology in Drake's music. People forget that most successful music artist are extremely intelligent, but their music may serve as a distraction causing haters to hate simply because they cannot comprehend nor have the ability to understand the process of documented executive planning; let alone read the rules of business formalities especially within the music industry.
In conclusion, Drake's solitude and isolation while venting on Chicago Freestyle can realistically make a "visitor" feel disappointed with expectations of a club life experience oblivious that Chicago is not economically nor socially designed like Atlanta nor Miami. My advice is to not put your Easter Eggs in one basket. Focus on the business! All in all, I ROCKS with Drake since Comeback Season and Dark Lane Demo Tapes is without doubt a dope and enjoyable project!
